The journey toward my animal rescue work began with the tragic events of 9/11/01. After searching and researching my options for a new career after my travel business was so drastically affected, I decided to enroll in Animal Behavior College’s (ABC) canine training course. This decision came from my realization that I have always wanted to work with animals. As part of my dog training requirements, I volunteered through local shelters, working with dogs to improve train and improve their behavior. At the time, I thought this would only be a temporary assignment.
I realized through a series of events that the important job of helping homeless animals was to be my life’s mission.
After graduating from ABC in September 2004, I continued to volunteer and discovered the rewarding aspects of helping dogs become more adoptable. Since most dogs are given away, surrendered to shelters, etc. due to behavior problems, this is even more important. In addition to volunteering my time at mobile adoptions, fundraising and community events, I have fostered a few dogs and cats, helping a local rescue organization become a strong presence in the community. It takes an entire group of caring people to work together to create one voice for all of the homeless animals out there.
It is the most rewarding work I have ever done!
